At present, many patients think that after the stenting or bypass surgery, coronary heart disease is cured, do not have to take drugs or just take drugs for a period; in fact it is wrong. Stenting or bypass only solves the problem of coronary artery stenosis, and does not solve the coronary heart disease itself; neither prevents the occurrence of coronary heart disease. For patients with coronary heart disease, the control of risk factors and long-term regular medication are the keys to prevent recurrence of cardiovascular events, so do a good management is very important. Then how to carry out self-management? The elderly should master the knowledge of prevention and treatment of coronary heart disease through education, and truly achieve the self-management.

1. A reasonable diet, well weight control: elderly patients with coronary heart disease should principally choose low salt, low fat and low calorie food, daily salt quantity less than 5 grams, multi use vegetable oil, eat more fruits and vegetables that are rich in vitamins and plant protein, and light food which is easy to digest; avoid solid, spicy, strong irritant food; avoid overeating, too cold or hot food, strong tea, coffee and other excitant drinks, and keep smooth stool. Weight control is achieved through a reasonable diet and appropriate exercise.   ideal weight (kg) = height (CM) - 105 (male) or ideal weight (kg) = height (CM) - 100 (female), normal: + 10%, more than normal weight of 10% ~ 20% is overweight, 20% is obese.   BMI = weight (kg) / height (m)2, Chinese adult body mass index: less than 18.5 as underweight; 18.5 ~ 24 as normal; 24 to 28 as overweight; more than 28 is obese.

2. Establish good habits and receive good psychological education: develop a regular work and rest time, early to bed and early to rise, avoid to stay up late, quit alcohol and smoke, keep a good state of mind, avoid anxiety, depression and so on.

3. Appropriate rehabilitation exercise: follow the principle of individuation, formulate suitable exercise program (elderly need cardiovascular physicians to assist in the formulation). The common motion modes include walking, aerobics, Taiji boxing, swimming and so on.

4. Adhere to regular medication: after stenting, patients have to take double anticoagulant drugs for more than a year, and intensive
lipid-lowering drugs and other drugs for coronary heart disease, which need regular monitoring of the drug efficacy and possible side effects.

5. Control blood pressure, blood sugar: patients with high blood pressure and diabetes need self monitoring at home and timely record. If there are abnormities, patients should get timely treatment.

6. Regular review: monthly review regularly in the hospital, 6-9 months to review coronary angiography.
